For a different take on a black forest cake, (previously shown here) I made this one with strawberries instead of cherries. Since chocolate and strawberries go so well together, I decided to create this version for my Dad’s 86th birthday. For the cake recipe, I used the same one as my previous post above. Chocolate frosting topped with homemade whipped cream and fresh strawberries made for a decadent center layer. Continue to only frost the cake layers with chocolate. Add whipped cream to the top and decorate with cut strawberries. The taste was completely different than the one made with cherries – much more complimentary to the chocolate. Another delicious slice of heaven.
